Solo Take: 2017 Masters Winner

Is Dustin Johnson the inevitable winner of the 2017 Masters?

Quick answer. DJ isn't the inevitable winner, but he sure is the favorite coming into this year. I'll give you my case for Dustin Johnson, and a case against the hottest man in golf right now.

Pro DJ:

Dustin Johnson is the hottest man in golf at this moment. Here's his 2017 Resume:

  • 3 Wins on Tour
    • Genesis Open (2/19/17)
    • WGC Mexico Championship (3/5/17)
    • WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay (3/26/17)
  • 6 Top 10 Finishes
    • 3 Wins Above
    • 3rd at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (2/12/17)
    • T3 at Hero World Challenge (12/4/16)
    • T6 at SBS Tournament of Champions (1/8/17)
That is nothing short of impressive. He's been on a tear coming into this week at Augusta. Most people are asking, "Why not DJ?" And for good reason. The winner of the past 3 events heading into the year's first major, it's a match made in heaven. His long ball off the tee surely helps at Augusta, and if his consistency is where it has been lately, DJ can and will surely bring home a green jacket.

Against DJ:

HISTORY. History is not a fan of Dustin Johnson. Yes, he did win the 2016 U.S Open at Oakmont, and all the power to him. But, he has a tendency to crumble when it comes to big majors such as the Masters. The 2010 U.S Open serves as an example. With just one major win, I'm not surely convinced that DJ can bring it home in crunch time. Also, since this is the discussion of if he is the inevitable winner of the tournament, it's basically him or the field. I'd personally take the field that includes Rory McIlroy (4 Majors, and looking for the career Grand Slam at Augusta) and Jordan Spieth (2 Major wins, 1 at Masters). Rory has the ability to take over majors and with 1 win and 2 T2 finishes at Augusta, Spieth can take it home as well.

Last Take:

For my last take, I'll give you my prediction. It's tough not to side with DJ on this one. The man is red hot coming into this weekend, and has the greatest chance of winning. But, Jordan Spieth has won this tournament before, and owns Augusta, earning my pick to be the 2017 Masters Champion and to win his second green jacket.

Solo Take: NBA MVP Done and Dusted

The  NBA MVP Award is one of the biggest talking points of this season, and for good reason (rhyme unintended). In my eyes, there are 4 candidates for the award: Russell Westbrook (OKC), James Harden (HOU), LeBron James (CLE), and Kawhi Leonard (SAS). Each one has a legitimate case for the award, and in any other year, each candidate would be taking home the award. It’s a testament to the talent level of the NBA that we have 4 deserving players, but sadly, only one can take home the award. That player is number 0 for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Russell Westbrook, and although the triple doubles are part of it, they are not my entire case, and before you question me, let me break it down for you. MVP. Most Valuable Player. The name of the award is indicative to who is the most valuable to their team in the league. Take LeBron away from Cleveland. You still have Kyrie, you still have K-Love, and you still have a team in the playoffs. Take Harden away from the Rockets. You sti...
